MONTEVALLO - The Falcons volleyball team got a little payback on Saturday, avenging an embarrassing loss to UAH with a 3-1 win at Trustmark Arena. The Falcons (16-13 ant 7-7 in the GSC) moved up to seventh place with the upset of the second place Chargers. The haven't clinched a spot in the GSC tournament, but it looks bright with two home matches left to close out the regular season.
Senior outside hitter
Evelina Teran had a double-double to lead the way for UM. She finished the match with 15 kills and 14 digs.
Macy Martin and
Elizabeth Wilzbach finished with 13 kills each, while sophomore
Megan Schram and senior setter
Sav Roys had double-doubles as well. Roys tallied 20 assists and 10 digs, while Schram had 18 digs and 10 assists. Freshman setter
Colton Thompson led the match in assists with 24.
Head Coach
Katie O'Brien was all smiles after the match. "We are proud of the team and their effort.," she commented. "We have figured out how to make better adjustments to teams. This week wasn't easy and it feels great to beat UAH."
The Falcons were all business from the start, taking the first two sets 25-17 and 25-20. UAH avoided the sweep with a 25-15 win in the third set. But, the Falcons fought off the Chargers in the final set to close out the match.. Holding a slim 18-16 lead, the Falcons scored seven of the last eight points.
Macy Martin ended the match in style with a service ace that gave UM the 25-17 victory.
The Falcons will host West Alabama on Friday at 6 p.m., then Mississippi College on Saturday for Senior Day.
