Women's basketball falls 63-55 to Mississippi College

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The Montevallo women's basketball team came up short to Mississippi College, 63-55 at Trustmark Arena on Sunday afternoon. The loss evened the Falcons record at 1-1 in the Gulf South Conference and 4-5 overall. The Choctaws improved to 7-3 and 2-1 in the GSC with the win.

Jordan Jones led UM with 15 points, four rebounds, a steal, and an assist, while Shyan Flack contributed 12 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two blocks.

The Falcons led 18-11 at the end of the first quarter, then increased their advantage to double-figures when Melissa Snodgrass buried a 3-pointer with 9:38 left in the half to give UM a 21-11 lead. The offense stalled the rest of the half and the Choctaws began to heat up. MC outscored the Falcons 19-5 the final nine minutes of the second quarter to take a 30-26 lead into the locker room at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Falcons reclaimed the lead temporarily, but trailed 44-42 going into the fourth quarter. Kiya Sain opened the final period with a 3-pointer that gave UM a 45-44 lead. The score was tied at 50-all with 5:46 left when the Choctaws pulled ahead, scoring eight unanswered points. A pair of free throws by Alana Canady gave MC a 58-50 lead with 3:16 left in the game. The Falcons would come no closer than five the rest of the way.  Montevallo battled but struggled to put together critical points to effect the Choctaw lead.

UP NEXT:  Montevallo will be back home for a GSC match up against Delta State, with tip off set for Tuesday December 14th at 2:00 PM.
