MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The Montevallo Falcons fell to the Lee Flames 85-75 in a GSC Eastern Division tilt at Trustmark Arena Friday night. The loss drops the Falcons to 6-6 while Lee is 10-4 on the season.
Montevallo sits in fourth place in the Eastern Division as they fight for the 4
th spot and a chance to play in the GSC Tournament that begins on March 2.
Montevallo fell behind 9-0 to start the game but fought back to take the lead 10-9 with 14:54 left in the half. Lee regained the lead and held it throughout the first half as both teams went to the locker room with Lee leading 36-32. Lee was hot from the field shooting 59.1% and 45.5% from three-point territory. The Falcons shot 8-9 from the charity stripe to keep the Lee's lead at four.
Lee extended their lead to 46-35 with 14:16 remaining in the game. The Falcons used a Malcom three-pointer and
Ivan Smith layup to cut the lead to five, 50-45, at the 11:03 mark. Lee, undaunted, knocked down a big three and ended up extending their lead to 16 points with 7:15 remaining. Both teams went back and forth but Lee was able to control the game and win by the ten-point margin.
Montevallo was led by
Xavier Malcom with 19 points and
James McNeil added 18.
Lee was led by four players in double figures. Quay Kennedy and Michael McGuirk led the Flames with 24 points each.
