Men’s lacrosse falls 21-9 at No. 13 Wingate

WINGATE, N.C. – The University of Montevallo men's lacrosse team was defeated by No. 13 Wingate University on the road Saturday afternoon, 21-9. UM struck first, but the Bulldogs went on to score 15 goals in the first half to give them a comfortable lead heading into the half. Montevallo showed life in the third quarter, scoring three goals to Wingate's one, but the Bulldogs pushed their lead to double digits yet again early in the fourth to secure the win.
 
The Falcons are now 1-2 on the season, and have yet to play a home game.
 
UM's Connor Frederick opened the game with a goal just 44 seconds into the contest to give the Falcons their only lead of the game, but WU went on to score seven unanswered in the first. Wingate kept the hot streak going in the second, scoring eight more goals to UM's three, to give the Bulldogs a 15-4 lead at halftime.
 
The Falcons had a strong third quarter, scoring three goals to Wingate's one to cut the lead to single digits. The Bulldogs responded by scoring the first four goals of the fourth quarter to extend their lead back to double digits and seal the win.
 
Frederick and Jackson Neufeld each scored two goals and had one assist. Trevayne Hunter netted two goals. Kordell Primus put in goal and had a team-high two assists. Ryan Shea and Thomas Vaesen also added one goal each.
 
UP NEXT: Montevallo will step on the field again at Belmont Abbey College on Saturday, Feb. 27, at 12 p.m.
