BELMONT, N.C. – The University of Montevallo men's lacrosse team lost on the road in a non-conference game against Belmont Abbey on Saturday afternoon 12-8. The Falcons are now 1-3 on the season and have lost three straight.
Montevallo scored just 45 seconds into the game when
Kordell Primus found the back of the net.
Trevayne Hunter then scored a buzzer-beating goal to end the first period to put UM up 2-0 heading into the second quarter.
UM scored three more goals in the first five minutes of the second to extend their lead to 5-0.
Chaiton Williams,
Jackson Neufeld and
Connor Frederick all netted a goal during the span. The Crusaders got one back in the second, cutting the Falcons' lead to four heading into halftime.
Montevallo seemed to be in control early in the third, when Hunter netted another goal to push the UM lead back to five goals with 13:10 left in the quarter.
Belmont Abbey's offense then caught fire, scoring the game's next 10 goals. The Crusaders scored seven unanswered in the third, three of which were man up goals. BAC came out in the fourth quarter still on fire and tacked on three more goals to make it an 11-6 game.
UM scored two goals late in the fourth, but it was too little too late. Neufeld and
Ryan Shea were the goal scorers for the Falcons in the fourth.
