Falcons Capture Two More Victories

CARROLLTON, Ga. - The University of Montevallo volleyball earned two more wins on Saturday, defeating GSC foes Shorter University and the University of West Georgia.
 
Montevallo led for the entire first set against Shorter and even had several chances to win set point with a 24-21 lead, but Shorter ran off five straight points to win Set 1 by a score of 24-26.  After dropping the first, the Falcons bounced back to take the next three sets 25-22, 26-24, and 25-21. For the match, the Falcons outhit the Hawks .174 to .101.
 
Evelina Teran led the Falcons attack with 18 kills and a .326 hitting percentage.  Amanda Nugent and Isabelle Fuell each added two aces.  Casey Hendrixson's 17 digs and Morgan Hoffman's 7 blocks led Montevallo's defensive effort.
 
 
The Falcons also dropped the first set against West Georgia, as the Wolves led from start to finish, capping off the set 19-25.  Set two was more of a back-and-forth battle that saw the score tied on 10 occasions, with the Falcons prevailing 25-23.  Set three went to the Wolves again as they ran away with a 17-25 win.  Montevallo bounced back with a big win in the fourth set 25-11 as they held West Georgia to just two kills in the set.  The fifth set proved to be much closer, with the Falcons prevailing 16-14.
 
Three Falcons had double-digit kill performances for the match: Evelina Teran led the Falcons with a match-high 23 kills, followed by Amanda Nugent with 15, and Macy Martin with 14.  Savannah Roys (26 assists) and Isabelle Fuell (15 assists) split the setting duties that had the Falcons at a .240 hitting percentage.  Freshman Casey Hendrixson established a new career high with 29 digs.
 
UP NEXT: The Falcons travel to Valdosta State University next weekend to begin 2021 GSC Spring Championship Series play with matches against West Georgia and Valdosta State
