MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The Montevallo Falcons baseball team took another loss in the second game of their Friday doubleheader against the 23rd ranked UAH Chargers 10-5. The defeat drops UM to 0-2 to begin the 2021 campaign.
John Trousdale got the Chargers started in the first inning with a two run homer batting in Garrett Bodine. Griffin Rivers scored later in the inning on an error for a 3-0 lead to start out.
The Falcons managed to score again in the first inning as
Riley Cain reached home plate after
Asa Awbrey sent him in on a single to right field. It was rough sledding on offense for the next six innings for the Falcons. Austin East pitched four total innings for UAH giving up four hits, but no more runs after Cain's first inning score. During that stretch, the Chargers were able to build a 7-1 lead heading into the final two innings.
UM got hot in the bottom of the eighth inning scoring three runs. Cain came up big again singling to center field sending
Brandon Moore and
Evan Place around the bases to make it 7-3.
Evan Liddie would score later in the inning on a wild pitch. All three runs were credited to UAH's Dylan Murphy, but he took the win on the mound despite being replaced with one out to go in the eighth inning.
The Chargers would tack on three more runs in the ninth inning while the Falcons added one more.Â
Riley Cain led UM with two hits, two RBI and one run. Shortstop
Ty Wooton also collected two
hits on the day for the Falcons. Pitcher
Grayson Bray took the loss giving up five hits, five runs and a walk while striking out four.
