TIGERSVILLE, SC. - The Montevallo men's lacrosse team took a 13-9 win over the North Greenvile Crusaders on Saturday in South Carolina.
The Falcon's started the game with a quick score from
Connor Frederick within 41 seconds of the first faceoff. North Greenville soon answered with a score of their own to tie the game 1-1 with 12:07 left in the period. The Falcon's went on to outscore the Crusaders 2-1 to end the quarter with a 4-2 score in favor of Montevallo.
Montevallo pushed its lead early in the second quarter after a
Jackson Klewchuk score off a
Scott Friant assist, gave the Falcons a four goal advantage over NGU (6-2) with 6:40 left in the quarter. North Greenville soon responded firing off back to back scores to cut into the UM lead (6-4). The Falcon's remainded aggressive towards the end of the half, netting one last goal in the final 2:00 to notch a 7-4 UM lead at the break.
UM came back with the same energy after the halftime break, as they went on to outscore NGU 3-1 in the first five minutes of the second half. The Falcons persevered for the duration of the third ending it with a 11-8 score over North Greenville.
The Falcon's kept the trend of scoring 2-0 in a quarter before a NGU point, taking a 12-8 lead midway through the fourth. Montevallo sealed the deal as
Thomas Vaesen hit the final goal for UM ending the contest with 13-9 advantage over the Crusaders.
Thomas Vaesen led UM with five goals on ten shots, along with
Trevayne Hunter,
Connor Frederick, and
Kordell Primus who all netted two goals each. Additionally
Jackson Neufeld added a goal to the UM point total.
Anthony Pecoraro led the Falcon effort in ground balls, scooping up four to set a team high for the game. All-Conference goalkeeper
Kyle Little had 15 saves on 57 shots helping the Falcons limit NGU to nine goals.
UP NEXT: UM will be back on the field on Saturday, February 20th in Wingate, North Carolina to take on the Wingate University Bulldogs. The first faceoff will be scheduled for 12:00 PM
