Men’s lacrosse loses heartbreaker in OT at Anderson

Box Score ANDERSON, SC—The University of Montevallo men's lacrosse team fell in overtime to Anderson University on the road Saturday afternoon, 14-13. The Falcons are now 1-1 on the season with both games being played outside of the Peach Belt Conference.
 
UM's Chaiton Williams opened the scoring with an unassisted goal less than a minute and a half into the game to put the Falcons up 1-0. Anderson responded by scoring two unanswered goals take a 2-1 lead. Trevayne Hunter then found the back of the net for Montevallo, scoring off an assist from Scott Friant to tie the game.
 
The Trojans scored one more in the first and the first five goals of the second to take a commanding 8-2 lead with 10:07 left in the first half. UM then scored three of the last four goals in the second to cut the deficit to four heading into the half.
 
Anderson opened the scoring in the third to push their lead back to five, but the Falcons were not rattled. Montevallo responded by scoring four unanswered goals to cut the lead down to just one. Kordell Primus, Hunter, Jackson Neufeld and Thomas Vaesen each found the back of the net over a five-minute span to bring UM back.
 
The Trojans scored again to go up 11-9 with 6:42 left in the third, but Hunter and Neufeld came right back, each scoring a goal over a 93-second span. Anderson struck again one more time in the third and took a 12-11 lead into the fourth quarter.
 
Vaesen scored another goal to open the fourth and tie the game once again with 13:25 left in regulation. Anderson took the lead once again with 7:32 left in the fourth. Hunter found the back of the net for the fourth time on the afternoon with 3:38 left to tie the game at 13.
 
The Trojans spoiled the comeback effort, scoring with 15 seconds into overtime to take the win.
 
To go along with Hunter's four goals, Vaesen and Primus each added a hat trick, Neufeld netted two and Williams scored one.
 
UP NEXT: UM will travel to Wingate University to face the Bulldogs on Saturday, Feb. 20, at 12 p.m.
