CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The University of Montevallo softball team fell to Lee University 13-3 in the second game of a Gulf South Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. UM now has a 10-12 record with a 5-8 mark in GSC play.
Kinley Adams led things off with a double in the top of the first. Just like the first game this afternoon,
Sierra Easterwood stepped up to the plate and crushed a two-run homer down the left field line to put UM up 2-0.
Lauren Higginbotham then knocked a single through the left side, but was left stranded on first to end the inning.
Lee exploded for five runs in the bottom of the first, scoring four of the five with two outs. Four of the five runs scored by the Lady Flames in the inning were unearned.
Lee picked up right where they left off when they stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the second. The Lady Flames tacked on six more runs in the second to make it an 11-2 game. All six of the runs scored by Lee in the second were earned.
Montevallo got one back in the top of the third to make it 11-3. Easterwood, who reached base on a walk, was brought home on a
Fallon Groves ground out to second base.
Lee responded by adding on two more runs in the third, both of which were unearned.
UM could not mount a rally in the fourth or fifth, going one-two-three in both innings.
To go along with Adams, Higginbotham and Easterwood,
Mariel Bertossi also recorded a hit for UM.
