CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Montevallo could not hold off a late-innings surge from the Lee Flames on Sunday afternoon, losing 9-8 in Cleveland, Tennessee. The Falcons' offense exploded early but Montevallo could not hold an 8-2 lead in the late innings, with the Flames scoring six runs in the fifth inning and one in the seventh to steal away the win from UM.
Montevallo (10-13, 5-10) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning after a two-RBI single by
Fallon Groves (Ocean Springs, Mississippi) and a two-RBI double by
Brooke Ingram (Fort Payne, Alabama)
The Falcons added a run in the third off a
Mariel Bertossi (Ronchi dei Legionari, Italy) RBI sacrifice fly, scoring
Kinley Adams (New Market, Alabama) who had singled and stole second to start the inning.
The Flames scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning to cut into Montevallo's lead, 5-2.
Sierra Easterwood (Cullman, Alabama) launched a three-run homerun in the top of the fourth to extend the Falcons lead to 8-2.
Lee scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game 8-8.
The Falcons had a chance to take back the lead in their half of the seventh, after a walk to
Carlee Mullinax (Lincoln, Alabama) and a pinch hit single by
Gabrielle Ginnis (Lakewood, Washington), but UM could not capitalize.
A two-out solo homerun in the bottom of the seventh gave Lee the win.
Kinley Adams (New Market, Alabama) had a 3-for-4 day with a double, scored two runs and stole two bases.
UP NEXT: Montevallo is on their GSC bye-week and will play a doubleheader at Georgia Southwestern on Sunday, March 28th. First pitch is scheduled for 12pm.
