Box Score AMERICUS, Ga. - Montevallo dropped game one of their scheduled doubleheader 12-9 against Georgia Southwestern on Sunday afternoon. The Falcons pounded out nine runs and 13 hits but could not slow down the Hurricane's offense. Game two was rained out.
Georgia Southwestern scored one run in the first inning and three runs in the second inning to take an early 4-0 lead.
Montevallo (10-14) answered back in the third inning with four runs, to tie the game 4-4.
Sierra Easterwood (Cullman, Alabama) knocked in
Kinley Adams (New Market, Alabama) and
Holly LaForce Henderson (Irvington, Ala.) with a two-RBI double.
Mariel Bertossi (Ronchi dei Legionari, Italy) followed Easterwood with a two-run homerun to left field, tying the game.
GSW (9-5) added two runs in the bottom of third and six runs in the fifth to stretch their lead to 12-5.
The Falcons fought back in the sixth and seventh, scoring two runs in each inning, but could not close the deficit further than 12-9. In the sixth inning, LaForce-Henderson collected an RBI single and Easterwood grabbed her third RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly.
Hannah Carey (Huntsville, Alabama) hit her first career homerun in the seventh, a two-run blast to centerfield, her third hit of the game.
Brooke Ingram (Fort Payne, Alabama), LaForce-Henderson and Bertossi all had two hits in the game.
UP NEXT: Montevallo jumps back into GSC action this weekend when they host their in-state rival University of West Alabama Tigers (11-13, 7-11) at Orr Park. The Falcons will play Friday night at 6:00pm with a Saturday doubleheader at 11:00am.
