HOOVER, Ala. - The Montevallo volleyball team will advance to the championship round of the GSC Spring Championship Series Tournament, after taking a 3-1 win over a hard hitting Mississippi College Choctaws in Wednesdays semifinal match. With the win the Falcons are now 12-0 on the regular season and the Choctaws season concludes with a 7-2 record.
First of all hats off to Mississippi College they played extremely well," said head coach
Katie O'Brien. "I think we were just a little tight and that our upperclassman really wanted it, which isn't always used to our advantage. But everyone settled down later in the third and fourth set and we played more of how we like to play. I'm hoping that we were able to get some jitters out for tomorrow."
The Falcons set off a 4-1 lead in the initial rallies of set one. Mississippi College did not back down as they took the lead 22-21 late in the set. The Falcons held off the Choctaws to take the set 25-23.
The match was tightly contested with back and fourth kills in set two but the Choctaws edged the Falcons 25-22 in the second, making a 1-1 tie for the game. UM gained their composure in the third set but MC stayed on their heels. Montevallo closed out the set 25-20 to regain the advantage 2-1.
The Falcons finished the job in the fourth set after falling behind 3-2. The Falcons would regain the lead and remain in control for the duration of the final set ending with a 25-17 victory to seal the UM win.
Montevallo had four players put down double digit kills in the match.
Evelina Teran led the Falcons knocking down 15 kills with 12 digs and a block.
Amanda Nugent submitted 13 kills with two blocks and two digs.
Allie Dishman added 12 kills with four service aces, three digs, and a block.
Morgan Hoffman contributed 10 kills to the Falcon victory along with four blocks and a dig.
Casey Hendrixson led the Falcon defense with 19 digs, along with four assists, and a service ace.
Isabelle Fuell added 25 assists with 13 digs and a service ace.
Savannah Roys set up 20 kills for the Falcons along with eight digs.
UP NEXT: Montevallo will face UAH in the GSC Spring Series Tournament Championship on Thursday, April 1st starting at 1:00 pm. Tickets will be free for all UM students who come and show their student ID's.
