WHEN IN ROMEE: Contreras nets game winning goal in OT at UWG

CARROLLTON, Ga. – The Montevallo women's soccer team continued its win streak over conference opponents, Sunday after taking a 2-1 win over West Georgia.  With the victory UM advances to 4-1 overall with a 3-0 record over GSC opponents. 

The Falcon's were aggressive offensively in the first half, outshooting the Wolves 13-2, but were unable to find a goal during the period.  Both teams went into the halftime break with a 0-0 score.

Montevallo returned in the second with the same attitude, making several attempts at West Georgia's net.  The NCAA leading goal scorer Kira Bochard netted the first goal for UM in the 64th minute off a Romee Contreras and Kayla Travis assist.  West Georgia answered as Jazmine Santiago put a goal in for the Wolves to tie the game 1-1 with 17:58 left to go.  The teams did not put in a goal for the rest of the regular minutes leading the game to go into extra minutes.

Romee Contreras scored a goal in the 93rd minute that would seal the victory 2-1, for the Falcons.  Montevallo outshot West Georgia 29-6 and also took a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Contreras was highly productive for the Falcons, notching a game high five shots with two on target shots, an assist, and a game winning goal.  Kira Bochard had two shots total to go with her scored goal.  Kayla Travis (4 SH, 2 SOG), Tori Ochoa (3 SH, 1 SOG), Allye Darnell (3 SH, 1 SOG), Medhali Hernandez (2 SH, 1 SOG), and Kaeri Ward (1 SH) all added necessary contributions to the Falcon win.

UP NEXT: The Falcons are set to host Lee at Varsity Field for the regular season finale on Saturday, March 13th with the game set to start at 3:00 PM.
