PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Montevallo Falcons baseball team hit the road and had a hardly-contested Sunday double header giving West Florida, the second ranked team in the Gulf South, a run for their money. UM took the first game of the series 6-1, lost a close nightcap 10-9 and lost the following day 14-3.
Montevallo got the day going in the top of the third inning with some two out magic.
Riley Cain's double plus a couple of walks loaded the bases for
Ben Teel who singled up the left side to bring home two runs.
Jake Smallwood followed that up by singling up the third base line as well to give the Falcons a 3-0 lead.
Cain was involved again in the seventh sending a single up the middle to score
Brandon Moore who singled earlier in the inning.
Cain helped start UM off once more in the ninth to finish off the Argonauts.
Matt Simon led off the inning with a single, Cain matched it with a single to the left and K Collymore laid down a bunt single to load the bases again for
Ben Teel. The first baseman stepped up in the clutch with a single up the middle scoring Simon and Cain for some insurance runs.
Hogan Isbell (2-4) had a great afternoon on the mound pitching 5.2 innings allowing no runs, spreading out three hits and two walks.
Riley Cain led UM with three hits and an RBI,
Ben Teel had two hits with 4 RBI while
Brandon Moore added two hits and two runs.
Montevallo faced a big early deficit in the series' second game as West Florida built an early 5-0 lead. The Falcons struck in the third inning again as
Khalid Collymore singled home
Brandon Moore with two outs and
Jake Smallwood sent Collymore home two batters later to cut into the deficit, 5-2.
UM scored three runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take control of the game.
Riley Cain advanced to third after drawing a walk and stealing third two batters later.
Jake Smallwood singled through the left side scoring Cain and was rewarded when
Reed Latimer doubled down the right field line sending him and
Ben Teel across home plate.

Matt Simon to tie the ball game. Cain ran home off of
Ben Teel's triple two batters later. Teel scored as
Ryan Curran's single gave the Falcons an 8-6 lead.
UM had to spread seven pitchers across nine innings and the Argonauts broke through in the game's last three innings to get a walk off win in the bottom of the ninth.
Jake Smallwood led the team with three hits and two RBI.
Brandon Moore, Been Teel and
Khalid Collymore had two hits each and combined for four runs while
Ryan Curran added two RBI.
West Florida used an eight run fifth inning and a five run sixth inning to finish off the weekend with a win.
Ben Teel had two hits and two RBI and
Riley Cain also collected two hits and a run.

UP NEXT:Â Â Montevallo will resume play with a three game series against Delta State starting Friday April 16 at 5 p.m. followed by a double header on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
