MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo softball team beat Delta State University in game one of Friday night's doubleheader 6-0 at home.
UM struck first in the bottom of the second when
Hannah Carey hit a solo homer to right center field to open the game's scoring. Montevallo proceeded to load the bases, but left all three runners stranded to end the inning.
Montevallo added one more in the home half of the third.
Brooke Ingram tripled to lead things off. Ingram was then brought home by
Lauren Higginbotham to make it a 2-0 game.
The Falcons tacked on two more in the bottom of the fourth to make it a 4-0 game.
Carlee Mullinax led off with a single to right field.
Mariel Bertossi then stepped into the box and blasted a two-run homer center field. UM then got runners on second and third, but left both stranded.
The Falcons added yet another two runs in the fifth to put the game out of reach. After
Sierra Easterwood reached base on an error and advanced to second, Carey also reached base on an error that brought Easterwood home.
Holly LaForce Henderson then sent a single into left field that allowed Carey to score and make it a 6-0 ballgame.
Mychael McMillan pitched a complete-game shutout while only allowing four hits and striking out nine.
Carlee Mullinax led the Falcons at the plate, going 3-for-4 and scoring one run.
Alexis Cortez went 2-for-3,
Kinley Adams went 2-for-4 and Bertossi went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and scored one run.

UM got things going early by scoring two runs in the bottom of the first.
Kinley Adams singled to left field to open the game, and was later brought home on a sacrifice fly from
Hannah Carey.
Sierra Easterwood then doubled and later scored on an error.
The Falcons got on the board again in the third to extend the lead to six. UM scored all four runs in the inning with two outs to take firm control of the game. With the bases loaded,
Alexis Cortez singled to right field to bring Carey across home plate. With the bases loaded once again,
Holly LaForce Henderson doubled to left field to bring all three runners home and make it 6-0.
Montevallo ended the game in the bottom of the fifth by tacking on two more runs.
Mariel Bertossi hit a solo homer to left field to make it 7-0. Cortez singled to left field right after Bertossi's home run, then later scored on a Carey single into left field to end the game at 8-0.
Easterwood went 3-for-3 at the plate and scored two runs while also pitching the entire game and only allowed two hits.
Several other Falcons also stood out in the batter's box. Cortez went 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored two runs. Carey went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a run. Adams went 2-for-4 and scored a run.
UP NEXT: Montevallo will face DSU in game three of the weekend series tomorrow afternoon at 12 p.m. to go for the GSC series sweep.
