GREENWOOD, S.C. - The Montevallo men's lacrosse team took an 18-8 victory over the Lander University Bearcats, Saturday in Greenwood, South Carolina. The win puts Montevallo at 6-4 on the season with an 3-0 record against Peach Belt Conference opponents, and Lander falls to 5-3 with a 2-1 conference record.
The UM lacrosse team came to play Saturday at Lander, taking control of the lead early on in the game with a 4-2 advantage by the end of the first quarter. UM held their two point deficit in the second quarter as both teams netted two goals each for a 6-4 Falcon lead at the half.
The Falcons were the first to score a goal in the second half but Lander soon followed with a score of their own, making a 7-5 score. Montevallo then exploded for seven straight goals while shutting out the Bearcats for the remaining 12:24 of the third quarter, marking a 14-5 advantage by the end of the period. UM held strong in the fourth outscoring Lander 4-3 to secure the Peach Belt Conference victory.
The Falcons were led by
Connor Frederick who scored four goals with five ground balls, and two assists.
Trevayne Hunter was a major contributer for UM as well with four goals and three ground balls.
UP NEXT: Montevallo will be home for a PBC match up against Shorter on Saturday, April 10th in Motown. The Falcons will honor the programs innagural senior class during this game, with the first faceoff set for 1:00 PM.
