MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo fell in game one of their final regular season series to Gulf South Conference foe Shorter University, 15-2 on Friday evening. The Falcons are now 12-22 overall and 9-22 in conference play during their 2021 campaign.
The Hawks got on the board in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead and never looked back.
Ben Teel doubled with in out in the home half of the first to give UM a baserunner in scoring position, but he would be stranded on second.
Shorter would then go on to explode for seven runs in the top of the third to take a commanding 8-0 lead. Shorter then put two more on the board in the fourth to make it a double-digit lead.
Montevallo threatened to cut into the lead, putting runners on the corners in the bottom of the fourth, but could not find a way to bring the baserunners across home plate.
Shorter capped off their scoring by bringing in five more runs in the fifth to hold a 15-0 lead.
The Falcons found the board in the bottom of the sixth by scoring two runs. After
Asa Awbrey earned a walk,
Alex Langford blasted a two-run home run to right center field to get UM on the board and make it 15-2.
Teel was the only Falcon to have a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3.
UM had four errors in the field, two of which came in Shorter's seven-run third inning.
