MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo softball team lost the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the University of West Alabama 11-0. The Tigers claimed the series win by winning both games today after a Montevallo victory last night. The Falcons are now 11-16 overall and 6-11 in Gulf South Conference play.
UWA scored one run in the first to take an early lead. UM's
Kinley Adams hit a single in the home half of the inning, but was left stranded on first.
The Tigers used a huge second inning to take firm control of the game. A grand slam with one out by West Alabama changed the course of the contest and made it a 5-0 game. The Tigers went on to add two more runs in the inning.
Hannah Carey and
Alexis Cortez each hit a single in the bottom of the second, but were left stranded at first and second.
UWA added three more runs in the third to extend their lead to 10-0. The Tigers then added one more in the fourth to make it 11-0.
Lauren Hamby and Cortez each singled in the fourth, but were left stranded on first and second.
Cortez led the Falcons at the plate, going 2-for-2.
UWA outhit Montevallo 14 to five. Eight of the Tigers' runs were earned.
UP NEXT: UM will travel to the University of West Florida next weekend for a three-game GSC series starting on Friday, April 9 at 6:30 p.m.
