Former Falcon added to golf coaching staff

MONTEVALLO – The Montevallo golf program has added former standout Elaine Wood to its coaching staff, head coach Justin Pratt announced Thursday.

"I consider Montevallo my home," remarked Wood.  "Both my Dad and my brother played golf here.  I was playing professional golf and decided to take some time off to focus on myself.  So I thought no better way to do that than to come back to Montevallo and pass on to the kids some of the knowledge and skills that I've gained from playing professionally.

Wood had a decorated career while playing for the Falcons by racking up four wins, earning Freshman of the Year honors, and was a two-time Player of the Year in the Peach Belt Conference, and was also a three-time All-American.

In 2018 Wood captured the first win of her professional career on the NWGA's Eggland's Best Ladies Professional Golf Tour at Stoneybrook East Golf Club. Wood fired off a final round score of 66 to win the event by two strokes. The Baldwin native shot three subpar rounds (71-68-66=205) to get to eleven under par for the tournament.

Wood earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Montevallo in 2017.
