OWENSBORO, KY - The UM volleyball team took out their frustrations from a disappointing loss in their home opener in dominating fashion on Friday at the Kentucky Wesleyan Invitational. The Falcons blitzed the host Panthers 24-13, 25-12, 25-21, then followed that effort with a 25-16, 25-15, 25-18 sweep of Missouri Southern State. The Falcons improved to 5-2 with the wins.
In the opening match, freshman hitter
Colton Thompson had seven kills and 11 assists to lead UM. Senior
Evelina Teran and sophomore
Allie Dishman added six kills each while setter
Sav Roys finished with 12 assists. As a team, the Falcons had 14 service aces, six coming from freshman
Kamble Frenette. Teran and Dishman also had three aces each. UM had only seven errors in 75 attacks in the match, finishing with an effecient hitting percentage of .347. Meanwhile, the Falcons were stingy on defense, forcing 22 errors by KWC and holding the Panthers to a .081 hitting percentage.
The defense was even more sufficating in the win over Missouri Southern State. The Falcons held the Lions to a .000 hitting percentage. MSS had 24 kills, but committed 24 errors. UM also raised a shield over the net as the front line had 11 blocks (5 solo) On offense, the Falcons dropped 13 more aces for the day. Teran had eight kills and six digs to lead the way. Dishman added seven kills. Roys had 14 assists and six of the Falcons service aces.Â

Katie O'Brien was pleased with the team's significant improvement over their last outing. "Today, we played solid volleyball," she said. "We did a good job serving and blocking." O'Brien also lauded the effectiveness of Dishman. "
