Box Score 2 OWENSBORO, KY - After rolling through the first day of the Kentucky Wesleyan Classic, the Falcons lost both matches on Saturday, falling to Henderson State and Missouri Western State by 3-1 final match scores. The losses dropped UM to 5-4 on the 2021 season.
"It was a tough day," said Falcons head coach
Katie O'Brien. "There were some good moments, but we need to put them together."
In the opening match against former Gulf South Conference member Henderson State, the Falcons fell into an 0-2 hole, dropping the first two sets 25-13, 25-22. UM battled back to win the third set 27-25, but ran out of gas in the fourth set, falling to the Reddies 25-17.
Evelina Teran had 16 killls to lead UM.
Allie Dishman added nine kills and four digs, while
Casey Hendrixson finished with 25 digs.
Sav Roys contributed 30 assists and 12 digs and
Colton Thompson had 11 assists and 12 digs.
Then in the second match, the Falcons appeared on the road to recovery, beating Missouri Western State 25-19. But, the Griffons swept the final three sets, 25-17, 25-17, 25-12.
Once again Teran had 12 kills and nine digs to pace the Falcons, while Dishman had eight kills and five block assists. Roys and Thompson totaled 22 and 13 assists respectively, while Hemdrixson finished with 17 digs.
The Falcons early season tournament tour continues next weekend at the Bobcat Classic in Milledgeville, Ga. On Thurday, the Falcons face host Georgia College, followed by matches against USC-Aiken and Augusta on Friday.
