MONTEVALLO - In the 2021 season opening match up, the Montevallo women's soccer team lost on a late goal, 1-0, in the 85th minute of regulation to Florida Tech Saturday afternoon at Varsity Field. With the loss, the Falcons fell to 0-1-0 overall, while the Panthers improved to 2-0.
"Obviously we are disappointed with the result in our home opener. But overall I was proud of the team's effort today.," said head coach
Jake Wyman. "I thought we came to compete and defended well for 89 minutes.Thought the girls executed the game plan, created a few chances that didn't end up in the back of the net and thought we deserved more. It can be a cruel game, but we'll get back to work and go again."
With a little less than five minutes remaining in regulation, Marem Ndiongue of Florida Tech made her way down the pitch, finding Mariana Mazzocca for a shot that was punched into the Falcon net.
Montevallo had their chances in crunch time with a shot attempt from
Kaitlyn Harvey that was saved, and two corner kick opportunities but could not come up with a goal in the final minutes.
The Falcons outshot FTU 13-5 with an edge on accurate shots 4-3. Montevallo's
Cassandra Bodi collected two saves in 90 minutes in goal for the Falcons.
Montevallo will look to bounce back as it travels to Georgia to face the Young Harris College Mountain Lions Friday, September 10th at 6:00 pm.
