MONTEVALLO - The Falcons volleyball lost in straight sets on Wednesday to Spring Hill College in their first home match of the season 26-24, 25-21, 25-18. UM fell to 3-2 with the loss, while Spring Hill improved to 1-4. "I felt like we were off, but Spring Hill played well. They didn't make mistakes and they were very scrappy," said Falcons head coach
Katie O'Brien.Â
The Falcons struggled all night, never seeming to get into a rhythm. SHC outhit UM 49-39 in kills. UM was also off target for much of the match finishing with a hitting percentage of .162, while the Badgers hit .246 for the match.
Senior
Evelina Teran led UM with 11 kills and nine digs.
Sav Roys tallied 28 assists, while
Casey Hendrixson had 14 digs.Â
Kassandra Fairly had 13 kills to pace Spring Hill and Mikayla Boyer finished with 10 kills and 16 digs. Grace Harris added 20 assists and Jessica Fairly added 19 assists. Taylor Fontenelle had 18 digs to lead on defense.Â
Next up: The Falcons travel to Owensboro, Ky. to play in the Kentucky Wesleyan Invitational. On Friday, UM faces host Kentucky Wesleyan and Missouri Southern. Then on Saturday, the Falcons take on Henderson State and Missouri Western State. "It's going to be a tough weekend and we'll see how we rebound."
