MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The Montevallo women's basketball team came up just short against the nineteenth ranked Union Bulldogs, falling 74-70 Thursday night at Trustmark Arena. With the loss the Falcons slip to 7-10 overall and 3-6 in conference while the Bulldogs advance to 12-2 and 7-0 in conference for the year.
Montevallo was led by senior forward
Shyan Flack who notched a double-double, with a game high 25 points ,13 rebounds, and a block despite the loss. Union's Jaelencia Williams scored a team high 20 points, with 12 rebounds, four assists, four blocks, and a steal.
Montevallo jumped out and scored the first six points before Union notched the scoreboard with a three pointer. The Bulldogs took the first lead with 6:02 left in the period and held on for a 20-18 lead over the Falcons leading to the second quarter. In the second quarter the lead was traded multiple times until the Falcons managed to pull off a 10-2 run that gave UM a 39-29 advantage with 2:24 left in the half. The Bulldogs rallied to cut the Falcon lead to 39-35 by halftime.
The match became even tighter in the third period with multiple lead changes, until ultimately coming to a 54-54 tie by the end of the quarter. Montevallo battled in the fourth quarter but the Bulldogs were able to fend off the Falcons for the four point victory.
