MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The Montevallo men's basketball team suffered a tough 65-51 loss to the University of West Alabama. The loss was the third straight for the Falcons,' who fell to 8-11 and to 6-5 in the Gulf South Conference, while West Alabama improved to 15-3 and 8-2.
Guard James McNeil led the Falcons with 15 points. He hit 6-of-12 shots from the field, including a 3-pointer. Meanwhile guards
Braxton Bertolette and
Jason King had 10 points apiece. Bertolette also led the team in rebounding with eight boards.
The Tigers had four players in double-figures, led by Robert Davis, who finished the game with 17 points. Te Smith and Shardarrion Allen added 13 points each and Justin Allison tallied 10.
The Falcons were as cold as the air in Trustmark Arena in the first half, hitting 9-of-24 fieldgoals and only 2-of-8 3-pointers. Despite that, the game was tight until a late run by UWA resulted in a 10 point deficit for the Falcons at halftime, 31-21.
The Falcons came out firing in the second half, outscoring UWA 13-3 in the first 10 minutes. McNeil buried a 3-pointer with 11:08 left to tie the game at 34-all. But, the Tigers scored back to back baskets to ignite an 18-6 run to reclaim a double-digit lead at 52-40 with 3:38 left. The Falcons had no response down the stretch.
