MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The Montevallo women's basketball team failed to survive the UAH Chargers, falling 76-62 Wednesday night in Trustmark Arena. With the loss the Falcons slip to 6-9 on the year with a 2-5 GSC record, while UAH advances to 2-10 and 1-6 in conference for the year.
Jordan Jones had 18Â points to lead UM, while
Shyan Flack added 14 and
Kiya Sain 11. The Falcons were without guard Marissa Snodgrass, who missed the game with an injury.
Alexis Woods posted 21 points to top UAH. Miajah Bullock added 15 and Jirah Rogers tallied 13.Â
The Falcons were ice cold in the first half, hitting only 9-of-35 fieldgoals, which included a dismal 2-of-11 from 3-point range. Meanwhile, UAH took advantage of the opportunity and build a big lead. The Chargers would lead by as much as 16 points in the first half and took a 37-23 lead into the lockerroom at halftime.
The Chargers extended their lead to 18 with a layup by Alexis Woods with 7:16 left in the third period. However, the Falcons rallied to cut the deficit in half. A layup by Jennifer Jones made it 47-39 with 1:35 left in the quarter. But, UAH answered with five straight to push their lead back up to 52-39 as the clock ticked under a minute in the third. But, UM battled back and
Michaella Edwards drilled a 3-pointer on the buzzer to make it 52-44 after three quarters.
The Falcons got as close as four in the final period. A pair of freethrows by
Shyan Flack cut the UAH lead to 58-54 with 7:11 left. However, the Chargers responded outscoring UM 10-2 to go back up by double-digits at 68-56 with 3:09 left in the game. The Falcons wouldn't be able to mount another threat after that.
The difference in the game was in the paint where UAH outscored the Falcons 42-24.Â
