Falcons Sweep CBU 3-0 at Home

MONTEVALLO, Ala. -   The University of Montevallo Volleyball team improved to 15-6 on the year and 7-2 in Gulf South Conference play with a 3-0 sweep of Christian Brothers, the 10th of the year, at home, Saturday.
 
Montevallo was successful on both the defensive and offensive ends in the match, winning 25-21, 25-14, and 25-16.
 
After a back-and-forth affair to begin the match, Montevallo used a 6-2 run to take a 19-15 lead over the Bucs. Kills from Allie Dishman and Jillian Morgan, and an ace from Megan Schram capped a first-set win, 25-21, holding off the visitors.
 
There were several lead changes early on in the second set, but a 5-0 Montevallo run, capped with a Colton Thompson service-ace, gave UM a 17-10 lead. Up 18-13, the Falcons outscored CBU 7-1 the rest of the way, winning the second set 25-14.
 
Montevallo took a three-point lead over CBU in the third set, 9-6, following a trio of attack errors from the Bucs, and blocks from Aliyah Thompson and Morgan Hoffman.UM added to its lead the rest of the way and went ahead 20-11 after a 5-0 run that included two kills from Macy Martin. A ball-handling error for CBU ended the third set in favor of the Falcons, 25-16, and the match, 3-0.
 
The Falcons succeeded offensively throughout the match, hitting .267 overall and as high as .286 in the opening set.
 
Lately, blocking has been successful for the Falcons and that trend continued on Saturday as the side totaled seven. Morgan Hoffman registered four block assists.
 
With the win the Falcons are on a three-game win streak and remain a perfect 5-0 at home.

  • Hendrixson totaled 24 digs through the three-set match for a staggering 8.0 digs per set.
  • Colton Thompson led the Falcons with 19 assists to go along with eight digs.
