PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of Montevallo Volleyball team is moving on to the GSC Championship Tournament semifinal match after defeating UAH., 3-1, Friday, in Pensacola.
In the quarterfinal round of the tournament, the No. 4 seeded Falcons battled with the No. 5 seeded Chargers, ultimately coming out ahead after three straight set-wins. UAH opened the match with a tightly-contest win, 25-23 in the first set before UM responded with wins, 25=17, 25-22, and 25-18, to secure a 3-1 win.
Late in the second set, the Falcons held a slight lead, 19-17, but an attack error by the Chargers sparked a 6-0 run that was all UM needed to take the set, 25-17, an even the match 1-1.
In the third set, Montevallo trailed 20-19 before a 4-0 run, that included kills from Allie Dishman and Kamble Frenette, gave the Falcons a 23-20 advantage. A Jillian Morgan kills gave UM set point, 24-21 before Frenette finished off the set-win with another kill, 25-22.
Montevallo jumped ahead early in the fourth set and led by four, 11-6, following three straight kills from Aliyah Thompson, Jillian Morgan and Morgan Hoffman. Mid-way through, an 8-1 scoring advantage put the Falcons ahead 19-9. A final block from Dishman and Frenette sealed the deal, 25-18, sending the UM to the semifinals for the third straight season.
Dishman led the way with 13 kills and seven block assists while Frenette added 11 kills and a .346 hit percentage.
