MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men's basketball team defeated the No. 15 ranked Alabama-Huntsville Chargers, 89-70, Saturday evening in Trustmark Arena as
Braxton Bertolette led the way with a school-record nine three-pointers.
The 19-point rout is the first Gulf South Conference win of the season and UAH's first loss as the Falcons move to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the league.
Bertolette led all scorers with a career-high 36 points while setting a school record with a 9-of-14 finish from long-range.
Montevallo shot a staggering 57 percent from the floor in the contest while also shooting a 51.4 percent from three-point range. The Falcons tied the second-most three-pointers in a single-game in program history with 18.
Both sides paced each other early on as neither team held more than a four-point lead until a free-throw and three-pointer from Bertolette pushed the Falcons ahead by eight, 26-18, with 11:46 to go in the first half. Over the next six and half minutes, UAH flipped the script and hit six three-pointers to take an eight-point lead over UM, 37-29, following a 19-3 run at the 5:16 mark. Momentum shifted back to UM's side in the final minutes before halftime as Bertolette and
James McNeil each drained threes to help lift Montevallo over the Chargers at halftime, 39-37, following a 10-0 run.
Much like the beginning minutes of the game, both squads traded buckets to for a tightly-contested start to the second half. Midway through, Montevallo used a 10-0 run to race ahead of the Chargers by 12, 61-49 - a lead they would hold the rest of the way- following a three from
Jaylon Tharpe. The school-record-breaking three-pointer from Bertolette gave UM a 21-point lead, 87-65 with les than a minute to go.

GAME NOTES
- The win snapped a four-game losing streak and gave UM its first home win and first GSC win of the year.
- Braxton Bertolette's nine three-pointers set a school record, passing a host of players, including himself, that made eight in a game. The graduate student led the Falcons with 36 points on 13-20 shooting from the floor.
- MJ Jones set career-highs with a team-leading nine assists and eight rebounds to go along with 19 points on 5-of-10 shooting.
- Montevallo registered season-highs from the field (57.4 percent) and from three (51.4 percent).
- Montevallo held its largest rebounding advantage of the season with a plus-nine margin over UAH, 34-25.
- Mason Shifflett was the third Falcon to score in double-figures as he added 20 points on 4-of-10 shooting from deep.
