Volleyball Clinches Top Four Seed in GSC Tournament with 3-1 win over UWA

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of Montevallo Volleyball team clinched a top-four seed and a first-round bye in the Gulf South Conference Tournament with a win over West Alabama, 3-1, Thursday.

On the final road trip of the regular season the Falcons recorded its 10th GSC win of the year to secure a top-four spot in the upcoming conference tournament.

Montevallo opened the first set in dominant fashion and led 10-3 following a kill from Macy Martin that forced a UWA timeout. After the Tigers cut the lead to six, UM used a 3-0 run to lead 18-9 before ending the set on a 10-1 run, winning 25-10. The Falcons hit a game-high .417 in the first set.

The Tigers played UM closer in the second set but an early 4-1 run, capped with an Allie Dishman kill, was all the Falcons needed to hold a lead the rest of the way. A Morgan Hoffman kill pushed UM's lead to nine, 19-10, for the largest lead of the set before a 6-0 UWA run made it 20-14. A kill from Martin and an ace from Dishman halted a Tigers' comeback attempt in the set as the Falcons went on to win, 25-18.

In the third set, UM once again opened with an early advantage but a 5-0 run, that included three consecutive aces, gave UWA a 17-16 lead mid-way through. The Tigers edged Montevallo 8-7 the rest of the set, winning 25-23.

The Falcons took care of business in the fourth set and broke a 6-6 tie with an 11-1 run, that included two service aces, to lead 17-7. UM outscored the Tigers 8-4 the rest of the way as Hoffman capped the win with a block, 25-11, to secure a first-round bye in the upcoming tournament.

Allie Dishman led Montevallo with 14 kills while hitting .500 in the match.
