Falcons Drop Five-Set Match at Mississippi College

CLINTON, Miss. – The University of Montevallo Volleyball team dropped a tight five-set match up on the road at Mississippi College, 3-2, in the final game of the regular season.
  
Despite the loss, the Falcons have secured the fourth seed and a first-round bye in the upcoming Gulf South Conference Tournament.
 
Montevallo dropped the first set of the match, 24-26, after a slow start with just 11 kills on 37 attacks. The Falcons jumped out to a 5-1 lead with two early kills by Kamble Frenette and Jillian Morgan before the Choctaws fought back to take the set with a 5-1 run.
 
The second set was a polar opposite of set one for Montevallo. The team hit 0.250 in set two with fifteen kills as the Falcons won the set, 25-20. UM took the lead early with kills from Morgan and Macy Martin and held the lead until a 4-0 run for MC gave the Choctaws the lead. Back-to-back kills from Martin and Frenette gave the Falcons an 18-17 lead. Sav Roys' service ace secured the set for Montevallo, 25-20.
 
Montevallo fell behind quickly in the third set after Mississippi College took the first three points of the set. A kill from Aliyah Thompson sparked the Falcons' offense to fight back and take the lead, 12-11. The Falcons closed the third set on a 3-0 run to take a 25-19 set victory and a 2-1 lead overall.
 
The offense slowed for Montevallo in set four with just six kills on 29 attacks as Mississippi College took the set, 25-19. The Falcons took an 11-10 lead after a kill from Morgan before MC returned with a kill of their own to take back the lead, 12-11, to take control of the set.
 
The fifth and final set saw the Falcons hit 0.281 with 11 kills as the team took a 4-1 lead to open the set. Montevallo held control of the set until MC tied the score, 12-12, after an attack error from Martin. The match ended on a controversial ball handling error for Montevallo to give the Choctaws a 15-13 victory and the match.
 
Aliyah Thompson led the Falcons with 12 kills, while Allie Dishman hit for 0.529 and nine kills.

  • Casey Hendrixson led Montevallo with 18 digs and a 3.6 digs per set mark.
  • Sav Roys recorded her 3,000th career-assist with 29 total in the match.
