JACKSON, Tenn. – Despite featuring three players in double-figures, the University of Montevallo men's basketball team dropped a road contest to Union, 77-64, Friday, as the hosts shot 66.7 percent form the floor in the second half.
In a tale-of-two halves, the Bulldogs proved to have the advantage, outscoring UM 50-37 in the second half. A pair of free-throws from
Braxton Bertolette put UM ahead 27-24 with 38 seconds to go in the first half, but a late three from the Bulldogs evened the contest, 27-27 at the break.
A 13-2 run to open the second half for Union found the Flacons behind 12, 41-29 at the 15:26 mark. Union took its largest lead with 11:20 remaining, 52-36. With 9:44 to go, a layup from Bertolette opened a 13-7 run for Falcons before the Fort Collins, Co., native trimmed the deficit to single digits, 59-50, from the charity stripe. Montevallo was unable to cut further into the lead the rest of the way, falling 77-64.

HOW IT HAPPENED

st | There were six lead changes in the first half as Union led for over 12 minutes. The Falcons worked out of a late four-point deficit in the first half to take a three-point lead, 27-24, following a free-throw from Bertolette. A late three form Union evened the score, 27-27 at the half.

nd | Union led for the entire second half and opened on a 13-2 run to lead UM, 40-29. The Bulldogs shot 66.7 percent from the field. Montevallo improved from the first half, shooting 47.8 percent.
GAME NOTES
- Bertolette led the Falcons with 21 points, his fifth 20-plus point performance of the year.
- James McNeil added a season-high 17 points and Tyler Moore contributed 11.
- Montevallo outrebounded the Bulldogs, 36-32, and 11-9 on the offensive glass. However, Union held a 15-11 advantage in second-chance points.
- Turnovers hurt the Falcons as the team committed 16 while Union turned the ball over 10 times and scored 23 points off UM's mistakes.
