Falcons Comeback Falls Short at Union

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Montevallo women's basketball team's comeback effort fell short on the road, 78-69, at Union behind 19 points from senior guard Marisa Snodgrass.
 
The Falcons fell behind quickly after Union jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game. After the first quarter, Montevallo trailed 23-10. The Falcons bounced back in the second quarter with a 16-13 advantage before the half. A pair of costly turnovers stretched the Bulldogs' lead to 16 with 1:32 left in the half. McCarley Northway and Snodgrass knocked down a pair of clutch threes to cut the lead back down to 10 and carry some momentum into the locker room. Both offenses exploded in the third quarter with each team added 27 points on the scoreboard. The Falcons shot an impressive 9-for-15 from the field and 4-of-6 from three-point land in the quarter. Montevallo's scoring was spread evenly throughout the quarter with Snodgrass' six points leading the way. A driving layup from Isabel Grimes brought the Falcons within six with 1:05 left to play. The Bulldogs knocked down three free throws down the stretch to take the game, 78-69.
 
Snodgrass produced the most offense for the Falcons with a total of 19 points on 7-for-11 shooting and 4-for-8 from three-point range. Grimes added 10 points off the bench as the Falcons' second-leading scorer, while Northway lead the team with five rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1st | Montevallo got out to a slow start offensively, trailing 10-0 in the first three minutes, with Union taking the quarter 23-10.
2nd | The Falcons' offense found a way to deal with UU's full-court pressure in the second quarter to cut the lead to 36-26 heading into the half.
3rd | Both offenses were red hot in the third quarter with both teams scoring a total of 54 points in the quarter.
4th | The Falcons were able to trim the lead down to six with just over a minute to play but clutch free throw shooting from Union kept the Falcons at bay.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Union's length on the inside proved to be too much for the Falcons to handle with the Lady Bulldogs taking a 32-20 advantage in points in the paint.
  • Montevallo was out-rebounded 39-30 in the contest with Union holding a 11-7 lead on the offensive glass.
  • Each team committed 20 turnovers throughout the night.
  • Montevallo struggled at the free throw line, going just 8-for-16 from the foul line.
