Montevallo Takes Down Christian Brothers, 74-70, On The Road

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Montevallo women's basketball team took down Christian Brothers on the road, 74-70, on Sunday afternoon. 
 
Montevallo opened the game with a bit of a slow start offensively, going just 5-for-20 from the field. An impressive 71.4 percent from the foul line in the first quarter kept Montevallo within striking distance, down 18-17 heading into the second. Marisa Snodgrass and McCarley Northway went on a two-woman, 9-point run with a flurry of threes midway through the second quarter to open up a 38-28 lead with 3:55 to go until halftime. An 8-0 run from Christian Brothers to end the second quarter closed Montevallo's lead to 38-36 heading into the break. The Falcons' offense slowed in the third quarter with just a 25 percent shooting clip. Freshman forward Savannah Cook lead the Falcons in scoring during the quarter with seven points on 2-for-3 shooting with the Falcons trailing by one heading into the final quarter. The Falcons shot a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line in the final quarter to separate from the Lady Bucs and take the matchup, 74-70. 
 
Snodgrass was one of three Falcons with double-digit point totals with a team-high 16 points on an efficient 4-for-7 shooting. Leisha Steger and Anna Katherine Eastman added 12 and 11 points, respectively. Michaella Edwards would not be denied on the glass, grabbing a team-high seven boards.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
1st Montevallo struggled to get the offense going in the first quarter with just a 25 percent mark from the field but a 71.4 percent clip from the charity stripe carried UM into the second quarter trailing by just one. 
2nd | The Falcons offense found its rhythm in the second quarter, going 7-for-10 from three, to take a 38-36 lead into the half. 
3rd | Sharp free throw shooting and seven points from Cook kept the Falcons within striking distance heading into the fourth quarter, trailing 53-52. 
4th | Montevallo closed the game shooting 42.9 percent from the field with a perfect 8-for-8 mark from the foul line. 
 
GAME NOTES
  • Montevallo won the turnover battle with a 15-22 advantage in giveaways. 
  • The Falcons shot a staggering 12-for-26 (46.2%) from three-point range throughout the game. 
  • CBU took a 34-20 advantage in points in the paint. 
  • The Lady Bucs out-rebounded the Falcons, 41-35.
