MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo women's basketball team fell to West Florida, 84-59, on Saturday, Dec. 31.
The first quarter was tightly contested with the Argos taking a 16-15 after the first ten minutes.
McCarley Northway jumped out to a hot shooting start with a perfect 2-for-2 from deep for a team-leading six points in the quarter. The Falcons' offense struggling to find a rhythm in the second quarter with a total of nine points on 4-of-14 shooting to give West Florida a 31-24 lead heading into the half. Freshman
Savannah Cook had the hot hand in the second quarter with a team-high five points on 2-for-3 from the field. Montevallo's offense started to warm up in the third quarter with an impressive 75 percent mark from three-point range. The Argos proved to have the advantage in the paint with a 16-6 advantage in points in the paint during the third quarter. Cook continued her solid performance with six points on 50 percent from the field in the third. Montevallo found a bit of an offensive rhythm in the fourth quarter with a 36.6 percent shooting clip, but the Argos were able to hold off the Falcons to take the game, 84-59.
Northway led the way for Montevallo with a team-leading 15 points on 6-for-10 from the floor to go along with five rebounds.
Leisha Steger was the Falcons' top-rebounder with seven boards and four rebounds off the offensive glass.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1st | Montevallo started the game strong offensively with a total of 15 points during the first quarter in a hard-nosed, defensive battle.
2nd | The Falcons struggled to score in the second quarter with just a 28.6 percent shooting mark.
3rd | Montevallo started the second half on the right foot with a trio of threes, but the Argos' forwards were too much for the Falcons to handle inside with 16 paint points.
4th | The Falcons closed the game on a strong note with a 7-for-19 shooting clip in the quarter.
GAME NOTES
- Montevallo was outmatched on the inside with the Argos leading points in the paint, 44-26.
- The Falcons were outrebounded 45-34 in the contest, but Montevallo pulled down 13 offensive boards to UWF's 12.
- Montevallo's bench continued to perform with a total of 21 points coming off the Falcons' bench.
- West Florida held a slim lead in the turnover margins with a 13-16 advantage.
