MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's basketball team grabbed a 68-55 win over conference-foe Mississippi College on Friday, Dec. 2.
Montevallo got out of the gate slowly shooting just 15.4 percent from the field as MC jumped out to a 21-9 lead after the first quarter. The Falcons' offense exploded in the second quarter with six points form
McCarley Northway and
Miriam Oldacre as Montevallo shot a staggering 53.8 percent from the floor for a total of 24 points. UM's 24-point second quarter was highlighted by 10 points in the paint and 13 points off turnovers to tie the game at 33 all going into the halftime break. The Falcons came out of the half with a hot start in the third quarter shooting 5-for-10 with four points from Northway to take a 49-44 lead going into the final stanza. Montevallo's shooting cooled off the in fourth quarter with just a 27.3 percent mark from the field but sharp shooting from the charity stripe (12-for-16) carried the Falcons to the victory.
Anna Katherine Eastman lead all scorers in the game with 13 points off of a near perfect 7-of-8 mark from the free throw line.
Leisha Steger was a beast on the boards with seven total rebounds and a trio of offensive boards. Northway and Oldacre both scored in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

nd | The Falcons caught fire in the second quarter, making seven total field goals and a pair of threes, to come back from a 12-point deficit and tie the game at 33 heading into the break.

rd | The hot shooting from Montevallo carried over into the third quarter with the Falcons going 5-of-10 from the floor after the break.

th | Montevallo could not miss from the free throw line in the final 10 minutes, making 12 of 16 attempts from the stripe, leading the Falcons to the second conference win of the season.
GAME NOTES
- Montevallo was dominant inside, doubling up the Choctaws' paint points 24-12.
- The Falcons shot an impressive 30-for-37 from the free throw line for an 81.1 percent mark.
- UM was able to capitalize on MC's turnovers with 27 points off the Choctaws' 17 turnovers.
- Montevallo's bench came up big once again with 21 points off the pine with 11 from Northway.
- MC held a slight advantage on the glass with 36 rebounds compared to 34 from UM.
UP NEXT: Montevallo is set to host Delta State on Sunday, Dec. 4 at 2 p.m. in the second of two games against the GSC's Mississippi schools.
