DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Montevallo men's lacrosse team came up just short 12-10, against the Embry-Riddle University Eagles, Sunday in Daytona Beach, Florida. With the loss the Falcons drop to 2-2 on the season while the Eagles advance to 2-1 for the year.
The Falcons were led by
Kordell Primus who hit three goals on five shots, with two ground balls, and an assist.
Empty Riddle jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the first 4:58 of action. The Falcons only needed 00:34 seconds to answer as
Connor Frederick netted the first UM goal with 9:28 left.
Jackson Neufeld scrapped for an additional UM goal in the first quarter to notch Montevallo first lead if the game. The Eagles finished the first period with two unanswered goals to regain the lead 3-2.
ERU hit another goal in the initial minutes of the second period to establish a 4-2 lead over UM. The Falcons created an answer after
Kordell Primus passed the ball to
Trevayne Hunter for the Falcons third goal. Embry Riddle followed up with a 4-0 scoring run to end the half with a 8-3 lead over the Falcons.
Embry Riddle's Joe Anderson found the first goal of the second half with 12:47 left on the clock to give the Eagles a 9-3 lead. Montevallo answered with a series of unanswered goals to cut into the ERU lead 9-6 with 4:07 left in the third period.
The Eagles soon responded with a goal from Connor Bullock to establish a 10-6 lead with 2:23 left in the third. The Falcons only needed 00:17 to respond as
Kordell Primus hit the Falcons seventh goal with 2:06 left in the clock. Montevallo battled for another goal in the closing moments of the third quarter as
Thomas Vaesen battled to put in the Falcons eighth goal to cut the Eagle deficit all the way down to two points at the end of the quarter.
ERU opened up the scoring in the fourth quarter as Christian Hofer hit a goal to make the score 11-8 with 13:44 left in the game. The nets were silent until Hofer sank an additional goal with 3:33 left to give the Eagles a 12-8 lead. The Falcons pulled off another goal with 2:51 left in the game after
Connor Frederick served up a pass to Vaesen for a goal to make the score 12-9. Montevallo kept fighting as
Kordell Primus hit his fourth goal of the season, to cut into the Eagle lead 12-10 with 1:37 left to go.
The Falcons battled to even the score in the final moments of the game but the Eagles held off UM for the 12-10 victory.
