Men's lacrosse dispatches Palm Beach Atlantic 19-5

MONTEVALLO – The Montevallo men's lacrosse team raked in its third win of the season Saturday, with a 19-5 win over Palm Beach Atlantic at the Lacrosse Stadium.  With the win head coach Jason Lange's squad advances to 3-2 for the season while the Sailfish slip to 1-1 this season.

Montevallo lit up the box score with nine different Falcons providing the 19 goals, led by Trevayne Hunter with 10 points off of five goals and five assists.  Jackson Neufeld (3), Thomas Vaesen (3), Scott Friant (2), Kordell Primus (2), Will Sommer (1), Jackson Klewchuk (1), Nolan Rutty (1), and Jacob Obee (1) bolstered Montevallo's scoring efforts.

Senior Kyle Little started in goal for Montevallo and tallied 13 saves in 58:29 minutes.

For the third game this season the Falcons held a team to fewer than ten goals, with eight caused turnovers, and 33 ground balls.  Montevallo held a 17-6 edge in the face offs, winning seven in a row before losing one in the third quarter.

The Falcons jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first quarter before the Sailfish responded with their first goal to make the score 3-1 by the end of the period.  Montevallo assisted on three unanswered goals in the second quarter, until PBA's Hunter Hopman hit the teams second goal with 3:05 left. 

The Falcons snuck in two more goals in the closing minutes of half after Thomas Vaesen found Trevayne Hunter for a goal, followed by Scott Friant netting a score off of a Connor Frederick dish.

Trevayne Hunter tallied the first two scores for Montevallo in the third, giving UM a comfortable 10-2 lead with 8:35 left in the period.  Palm Beach Atlantic rallied for a couple of goals in response but the Falcons closed out the Sailfish 11-5 by the end of the third.  Montevallo exploded in the fourth quarter, sealing the deal with eight unanswered goals making way for the 14-point victory.

UP NEXT:  The Falcons return to the UM Lacrosse Stadium on Saturday, March 5th at noon against the University of Indianapolis.
