Falcons soar past Golden Tigers 24-1 on the road


TUSKEGEE, Ala. - The Montevallo baseball team took a dominant  24-1 win over Tuskegee, Wednesday afternoon on the road.  With the win the Falcons succeed to 12-0 for the year while the Golden Tigers slip to 1-7 this season.

The Falcons scored their first two runs after Jake Smallwood stepped up to the plate in the second and hit a home run with Sam Kuchinski on base to make the score 2-0.  In the same inning Brandon Moore launched a single to left field allowing Riley Cain to fly home from second for UM's third run. 

The Golden Tigers cut the margin in the third inning after a Corey Stallings single brought Russell Coleman across home plate from third. 

Montevallo took off in the fourth inning The Falcons produced their next two runs in the fourth after an error in center field allowed two Falcons to score.  UM followed up with a triple from Asa to bring two additional runs home.  The very next at bat Ben Teel hit a home run with one on base to make the score 9-0 in favor of Montevallo. 

In the fifth inning the Falcons scored after back to back hitters were hit by pitch with bases loaded.  During the same AB, Sam Kuchinski singled to center field that would allow Mitch Fleming and Asa Awbrey to score two additional UM runs.  

Brandon Moore stepped up to the plate and created a run after he hit a double deep into center field that let Ryan Curran circle the bases for the Falcons 14th run.  The Falcons scored again, after a passed ball with bases loaded gave Montevallo an additional scoring opportunity.  

Greg Lewandoski singled to left field to bring Matt Fleming home for run number 17.   Alex Langford came in to pinch hit and was walked with bases loaded, bringing home Lewandoski for yet another run.   

The Falcons continued the scoring spree after Brennan Ferguson hit a single to bring Zen Hiatt in for another Falcons score.  Brandon Moore was walked during the following AB which pushed Evan Liddie to home plate for the Falcons next run.

The Falcons scored their final run in the seventh inning after Chet Moore doubled to center field to bring home Liddie for Montevallo's 24th run 

UP NEXT: The Falcons will open up their Gulf South Conference schedule against Delta State on Saturday, February 26th at 1:00 PM in Cleveland.
