MONTEVALLO - The Montevallo men's lacrosse team took an 18-8 win over the Mars Hill University Lions, Saturday afternoon at the UM Lacrosse Stadium. With the win the Falcons start the season with a 1-0 record and the Lions slip to 1-0.
Senior attacker
Thomas Vaesen led the game with seven goals, along with two assists, two ground balls, and a caused turnover. The Falcons defense was strict, partly due to the tenacity of
Luke Hennebaul who picked up eight ground balls. and caused three turnovers.
Gerry York played a critical role in the Falcons ball possession, winning 12 out of 15 face offs, along with a goal.
The Falcons battled with MHU with both teams trading goals, but UM managed to gain a 5-2 edge by the end of the first quarter. Montevallo scored two unanswered goals in the second quarter which added momentum for the Falcons to increase their lead 8-3 by halftime.
That momentum continued to spill over into the following period with UM netting four goals before MHU found their fourth point. The Falcons held on to a comfortable 10+ point cushion for the duration of the game to secure the victory.
