Men's lacrosse slides past Mars Hill 18-8 in season opener

MONTEVALLO - The Montevallo men's lacrosse team took an 18-8 win over the Mars Hill University Lions, Saturday afternoon at the UM Lacrosse Stadium.  With the win the Falcons start the season with a 1-0 record and the Lions slip to 1-0.

Senior attacker Thomas Vaesen led the game with seven goals, along with two assists, two ground balls, and a caused turnover.  The Falcons defense was strict, partly due to the tenacity of Luke Hennebaul who picked up eight ground balls. and caused three turnovers.  Gerry York played a critical role in the Falcons ball possession, winning 12 out of 15 face offs,  along with a goal.

The Falcons battled with MHU with both teams trading goals, but UM managed to gain a 5-2 edge by the end of the first quarter.  Montevallo scored two unanswered goals in the second quarter which added momentum for the Falcons to increase their lead 8-3 by halftime.

That momentum continued to spill over into the following period with UM netting four goals before MHU found their fourth point.  The Falcons held on to a comfortable 10+ point cushion for the duration of the game to secure the victory.

UP NEXT: The Falcons will face Lincoln Memorial at home, with the first face-off set for Saturday February 12th, at 1:00 PM.
