GULF SHORES, Ala. - The Montevallo softball team wrapped up opening weekend at the Gulf Coast Invitational with another split. UM beat Palm Beach Atlantic 3-1, but lost to Lubbock Christian 6-1. The Falcons finished their first weekend in action with a record of 2-2.

Mychael McMillan and
Mabry Norris combined to scatter seven hits. McMillan pitched four and two thirds innings to earn the win. She gave up four hits and the only Sailfish run in the game. She had two walks and four strikeouts. Norris started the game and pitched two and a third before giving way to McMillan. She had a strikeout and a walk.
On offense,
Alisha Lanyon was 2-for-3 with a double.Â
The Falcons scored all three of their runs in the third inning.
Kinley Adams scored on an RBI single by
Sierra Easterwood. Then, Easterwood scored on a sacrifice fly by
Taylor Robinson, giving the Falcons a 2-0 lead. The third run came to the plate when a throwing error scored
Hannah Carey from third.
PBA scored there only run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Lubbock Christian 6, Falcons 1
The Falcons fell behind right out of the gate as Lubbock Christian scored five runs. The Chaps added another run in the third to take a 6-0 lead.Â
The Falcons avoided the shutout with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a solo homerun by
Lauren Higginbotham. The hit was one of only four hits for the Falcons.
Kaylee Hawkins (1-1) took the loss for the Falcons. She gave up five runs on three hits. She walked three and had a wild pitch.
Next up - The Falcons travel to Columbus, Ga. to compete at the CSU Cougar Classic on Friday and Saturday.
