MONTEVALLO, Ala. --- The Montevallo softball team came from six runs behind to beat Christian Brothers 14-13 in eight innings. It was the third consecutive win for the Falcons and third straight dramatic walk-off victory. The Falcons clawed their way back to .500 at 10-10 and 2-3 in the Gulf South Conference. CBU meanwhile, fell to 5-15 and 1-6 in the GSC.
The Falcons piled up 17 hits in the game and as it turned out, they needed every one of them. After two innings, the Falcons found themselves staring up at a 9-3 deficit. However, the CBU had all but evaporated after UM batted in the bottom of the second inning. The Falcons scored five runs to pull within a run at 9-8. The inning was highlighted by three consecutive doubles by
Sierra Easterwood,
Alisha Lanyon and
Lauren Hamby.
Easterwood's double drove home a run,
Lanyon's two-base hit plated a pair of runs and Hamby drove home a run.
Hannah Carey also had an RBI in the inning.
CBU extended their lead in the third inning with a 3-run homerun by Mackenzie Puckett. It gave CBU a 12-8 lead. It looked like the Falcons had run out of fireworks as the score remained unchanged until the sixth inning. But, Carlee
Mulinax restarted the rally with a 2-run homer that cut the lead to 12-10. A bases-loaded walk brought the Falcons to within a run.
In the seventh inning, Hamby tied the game with a sacrifice fly, forcing extra innings.
The Buccaneers took a one run lead on a sacrifice fly by RJ Simpson. In the bottom of the eighth inning,
Sydnee Pawlak led off with a single and advanced to second on a passed ball. Then, Easterwood ripped a triple to the left center field gap, easily scoring Pawlak. A throw to try and cut Easterwood down at third was errant, trickling into foul territory. Easterwood broke for home and scored the game-winner.
Cary was 4-for-5 at the plate with a double and three RBIs. Easterwood, Lanyon and Hamby each had three hits. Easterwood finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, triple and two RBIs.
