Box Score 2 MONTEVALLO, Ala. -- The Montevallo softball team completed a weekend sweep of Christian Brothers, 8-0 by run rule in the first game and coming from behind to win game two 7-6 in the final at-bat. With the wins, the Falcons went 5-0 for the week, improving to 12-10 and 4-3 in the Gulf South Conference.
Next up: The Falcons host Union University on March 19 and 20 in another Gulf South Conference series at Orr Park. The two teams will square off in a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m., then wrap up the three game set on the first day of spring at noon.
GAME 1
Mabry Norris (5-3) pitched a no hitter and
Taylor Robinson hit a pair of homeruns to lead the Falcons to the 8-0 win.
Norris was dominant in the five innings, allowing only two base runners off of a pair walks. She also had three strikeouts.
Robinson had homers to sail over the left field fence and just inside of the right field foul pole. She finished the game 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
Sydnee Pawlak also had two hits, while
Sierra Easterwood and
Lauren Hamby and
Lindsy Smith each doubles. Smith's pinch-hit two-run double in the fifth inning ended the game for the Falcons.
GAME 2
In the final game of the series, the Falcons trailed by four runs late in the game, before rallying for their fourth walk-off win of the week.
The Falcons fell behind early when CBU scored in the first and second inning to take a 2-0 lead. However,
Sierra Easterwood evened things up with a two-run homer in the third inning.
CBU reclaimed the lead with two runs in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth to open up a 6-2 cushion.
The Falcons crept closer in the sixth inning with back-to-back RBI doubles by
Alisha Lanyon and
Georgia Hughes. The two runs trimmed the UM deficit to 6-4.
Going into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Falcons had the top of the order due up, setting the stage for another potential final at-bat rally.
Easterwood led off with a triple of the center field fence. She scored on an RBI single by
Hannah Carey.
Carlee Mullinax and Hamby both reached on fielder choice ground balls. With the bases loaded, Lanyon singled through the right side, scoring pinch-runner
Olivia Bergert. She was followed by another pinch-runner
Sawyer Martin, who raced home after an errant throw to the plate by the Buccaneers right fielder, Savannah Crockett.
Mychael McMillan improved to 4-3 on the season with the win in relief of starter
Kaylee Hawkins. She pitched two innings, allowed two runs on one hit. She also had a strikeout and a walk. Hawkins worked five innings, gave up four runs on six hits, while striking out five and walking one.
Easterwood was 4-for-4 at the plate with a double, triple and two RBIs. Lanyon had two hits, including a double and two RBIs.
