ROME, Ga. --- The Montevallo softball team outlasted Shorter University 10-8 in a wild game on Sunday afternoon. The Falcons improved to 17-11 and 9-4 in the Gulf South Conference with the with the sweep of the Hawks. Meanwhile Shorter fell to 4-27 and 1-16. The Falcons have won 10 of their last 11 games.
Next Up: The Falcons travel to Huntsville for a doubleheader against UAH on Wednesday, March 30. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Charger Park.
Pitching
Winning Pitcher -
Kaylee Hawkins improved to 5-3 with her second win in two days. She pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on five hits, while striking out two and walking one in relief of starter
Mabry Norris. Norris exited the game in the first inning after she allowed four runs without recording an out.
Mychael McMillan earned her second save of the season, working the last 3 /1/3 innings. She surrendered a run on four hits, struck out two and walked one batter.
Falcons Leaders
For the third straight game, the Falcons had double-digit hits, piling up a dozen.
Sierra Easterwood,
Lauren Hamby,
Alisha Lanyon and
Sydnee Pawlak all had two hits apiece. Pawlak was 2-for-3 with a homerun, four RBIs and a stolen base. Easterwood was 2-for-4 with a walk and a pair of RBIs.
Hannah Carey also had a 2-run homer in her only hit of the day.

Shorter scored four runs to take an early lead in their first at-bat.
Top 2nd
The Falcons cut the deficit in half with a pair of runs on RBI singles by
Sierra Easterwood and
Sydnee Pawlak.
Top 3rd
Pawlak hit a 3-run homerun to give the Falcons a 5-4 lead, but, Shorter answered with a 3-run shot by Paytn Crips to give the Hawks a 7-5 advantage.
Top 4th
Hannah Carey evened the score at 7-7 with a 2-run homer. Then, the Falcons reclaimed the lead when
Lauren Hamby stole home.
Georgia Hughes also scored on the play to give UM a 9-7 lead.
Top 6th
An RBI single by Easterwood increased the Falcons lead to 10-7.
Bottom 6th & 7th
The Hawks stayed close, scoring a run to cut the UM lead to 10-8, then threatened with in the final inning with two aboard and the winning run at the plate. But, McMillan struck out Hannah Morales to end the game.
