Falcons Softball Sweeps UAH on the Road

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. --- The Montevallo softball team traveled north on I-65 and came away with a 6-5, 8-4 sweep of Alabama Huntsville in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon. The Falcons improved to 19-11 with their fifth consecutive win, while UAH fell to 17-13. The Falcons have also won 12 of the last 13 games.

Next Up: The Falcons return home to host 16th-ranked West Florida in a Gulf South Conference series at Orr Park. First pitch for Saturday's doubleheader is at 2 p.m. Then, the teams wrap up the series on Sunday with a single game on Sunday at noon.

GAME 1

Pitching
Mychael McMillan (8-3) earned the win in the circle, while Mabry Norris picked her second save. McMillan pitched five innings, allowed four runs on six hits. She struck out four and walked two. Norris allowed a run on two hits in two innings of work. She had a pair of strikeouts and walked three batters.

Falcons Leaders
The Falcons offense continued to roll with a fourth consecutive double-digit hit game. UM finished with 12 hits in the game. Alisha Lanyon led the way, going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Three other Falcons, Hannah Carey, Sydnee Pawlak and Kinley Adams had two hits each. Adams was 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Carey was 2-for-3 with a double.

Bottom 1st
The Falcons fell behind early when UAH score a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Top 2nd
An RBI single by Kinley Adams cut the UAH lead to 2-1.

Top 5th
The Falcons scored three runs to take a 4-2 lead. Three different players, Lanyon, Taylor Robinson and Georgia Hughes, had RBI singles in the inning.

Top 6th
The Falcons increased their lead to 6-2 with two more runs. Sierra Easterwood scored when Robinson reached on an error. Then, Lanyon drove the second run with an RBI double. The Chargers rallied in the bottom of the sixth inning with a pair of runs and another in the seventh on a bases loaded walk. But, Norris worked out of the major jam, leaving the bases full of Chargers to preserve the win. 

GAME 2

Pitching
Kaylee Hawkins (6-3) earned the win after pitching 6 1/3 innings. She allowed four runs on 11 hits. She had six strikeouts and no walks. Kaitlyn Flugga relieved Hawkins in the seventh and stopped the UAH rally. She worked the last 2/3 hitless innings 

Falcons Leaders
Right fielder Georgia Hughes was 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and five RBIs. Second baseman Sydnee Pawlak also had two RBIs on a pair of hits.

Top 2nd
Georgia Hughes got the Falcons on the board with a 2-run single, scoring Alisha Lanyon and Taylor Robinson.

Top 4th
The Falcons increased their lead with three more runs. Hughes struck again with a 2-run double. Lanyon and Robinson scored again to make it 4-0. Hughes scored on an RBI double by Sydnee Pawlak to give the Falcons a five run lead

Top 5th
UAH put a run on the board in the bottom of the inning, but the Falcons answered with three more to take a commanding 8-1 lead. Lauren Hamby, Hughes and Pawlak did the damage with RBI singles.

Bottom 7th
The Chargers tried to rally, scoring three runs to cut the Falcons lead to 8-4, however, Kaitlyn Flugga came in to end the threat.
