VALDOSTA, Ga. --- The Montevallo softball team lost both games in their series opening doubleheader against 3rd-ranked Valdosta State on Saturday. The Falcons lost the first game 9-2, but were in the game two into the late innings before falling 3-1. The losses dropped the Falcons under .500 at 7-9 and 1-2 The two teams wrap up the series at noon on Sunday.
In the first game, the Falcons were limited to three hits, but one was a 2-run homer by
Lauren Hamby in the fourth inning. Her long ball made it 4-2. But, VSU answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning to open up an 8-2 lead.
Mychael McMillan (2-2) took the loss for UM. She pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing 11 hits and eight runs. She struck out three and walked three.
The Falcons took an early lead in the second game on an RBI single by Hamby in the second inning. VSU scored in the fourth inning to tie the game at 1-1, then plated two more in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead. UM managed only one more hit the rest of the game.
Hamby and
Kinley Adams had two hits each for the Falcons.
Sierra Easterwood also had a double.
Kaylee Hawkins was the losing pitcher in the game. She worked four inning, allowed one earned run on four hits. She struck out five and walked two.
