MONTEVALLO, Ala. --- The 30th-ranked Montevallo baseball team tuned up for their Gulf South Conference series against Lee University with a dominating 12-1 win over the Tuskegee Golden Tigers on Wednesday afternoon. The Falcons improved to 31-11 with the win. Tuskegee, from the Southern Intercollegiate Athletics Conference, dropped to 10-19.
Next Up: The Falcons host Lee University in a crucial Gulf South Conference series at Bob Riesener Stadium. First pitch for the Friday single game scheduled for 5 p.m. Then, on Saturday, the Falcons will honor its senior class prior to the first game of the doubleheader against the Flames.Â
Pitching
The Falcons were able to rotate the pitching staff and keep the arms fresh for the weekend.
Kameron Gilham got most of the time among the six pitchers to take the hill, working 2 2/3 innings to earn the win. He allowed one hit, struck out three and walked two.Â
Falcons Leaders
Sam Kuchinski and
Jake O'Connell both hit 3-run home runs. Kuchinski finished with two hits. Reigning GSC Player of the Week
Reed Latimer also had two hits, a homer and a double.
Zen Hiatt drove in a pair of runs,
Brandon Moore,
Jake Smallwood and
Asa Awbrey all doubled and drove home a run each.

1st Inning
The Falcons got on the board in their first at-bat courtesy of a 3-run homer by
Sam Kuchinski. Two more runs scored on an RBI single by
Asa Awbrey and another when
Brandon Moore was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, giving the Falcons a 5-0 lead.
3rd Inning
Jake Smallwood added to the Falcons' lead with an RBI double, making it 6-0.
4th Inning
Reed Latimer smacked a solo home run to extend the lead to 7-0.
5th Inning
Jake O'Connell put the Falcons into double-digits with a 3-run shot.
6th Inning
Tuskegee avoided the shutout, picking up a run, but the Falcons answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to widen the gap to 12-1.
Zen Hiatt had the big hit, driving in two runs with a bases-loaded single.
