Rose notches 300th career win after 5-4 victory over Lee

MONTEVALLO - The Montevallo baseball team defeated Lee University 5-4 Friday night at Bob Reisner Stadium. The win marked the 300th career victory for head coach Chandler Rose. The Falcons improved to 32-11 overall record and 15-9 in the Gulf South Conference.

UP NEXT: Montevallo and Lee will resume the series with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 23rd at 12:00 PM.  The Falcons will honor its senior class prior to the first game at 11:30. 

PITCHING
Gino Cozzi earned the win on the mound for the Falcons,  as he allowed six hits, struck out seven and walked three.

KEY PLAYS
Top/Bottom 2nd

The Flames jumped ahead after Lee's Isaac Quinones hit a two-run homer to take an early advantage over the Falcons.  Montevallo followed with a Riley Cain triple that brought in Brandon Moore for the Falcons first run of the ball game.  UM found success with the next batter after Will Pratt hit a single to bring home Cain, tying the game at 2-2.

Bottom 3rd
Falcons found an additional run after a throwing error, with bases loaded, gave Jake Smallwood the chance to score granting UM their first lead of the game 3-2.

Top 4th
Lee caught back up to UM after a right field single brought in a run, tying the game 3-3.

Top/Bottom 6th
Lee's Cam Suto hit a single to center field with a man on base, setting off a 4-3 lead over the Falcons.  The Falcons tied the game 4-4 in the same inning when Reed Latimer ran home from third after Riley Cain grounded out to second base.  Will Pratt rounded out the inning with a clutch triple that brought Brooks Cooner home, allowing UM to regain the lead 5-4.
