MONTEVALLO, Ala. --- The Montevallo softball team built a big lead early against 5th-ranked Auburn-Montgomery, but couldn't hold on as the Warhawks came from behind to win 13-8 in a non-conference contest at Orr Park on Wednesday. The Falcons fell to 23-20 with the loss, while the Warhawks improved to 35-8.
Next Up: The Falcons host the West Georgia Wolves in the final Gulf South Conference regular season series of the year. The two teams square off on Friday at 4 p.m., then wrap up the series with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Orr Park. The Falcons will recognize its six seniors after Friday night's game.
Pitching
Mychael McMillan fell to 11-6 with the loss. She came on in relief of starter
Mabry Norris, who was pulled after 2 1/3 innings. She gave up five runs on two hits, walked three and struck out two in an inning and two-thirds.

Hannah Carey and
Taylor Robinson had two hits apiece to lead the Falcons. Both of Robinson's hits were doubles and she drove in two runs. Carey hit her fifth home run and also had two RBIs.

1st Inning
Warhawks drew first blood, scoring a run in the top of the inning on a sacrifice fly out by Molly Cobb.
2nd Inning
The Falcons exploded for seven runs on seven hits including including two doubles by
Taylor Robinson. After loading the bases on three consecutive infield singles to start the rally, outfielder
Georgia Hughes tied the game with an RBI single up the middle. Then, second baseman
Sydnee Pawlak followed with a shot off the foot of the AUM third baseman's foot into left field, scoring pinch-runner
Holly Massey and giving UM a 2-1 lead.
Lauren Higginbotham added another run, scoring on a fielder's choice, then Hughes came to the plate with the fourth run when
Sierra Easterwood reached on a throwing error. The scoring wave continued with an RBI single by
Hannah Carey.
Taylor Robinson capped the inning with a double, her second of the inning, off the top of the center field fence.
3rd Inning
AUM battled back scoring three runs without getting a hit. Three baserunners reached by way of walks, which loaded the bases. A run scored on a ground out. The other two runs came home on a wild pitch and an errant throw on the same play.
4th Inning
The Warhawks crept closer on a solo homer by Chloe Derrick, cutting the UM lead to 7-5.
5th Inning
AUM caught up and passed the Falcons, scoring four runs. The big blow was a 3-run home run by Derrick, her second of the game.
6th Inning
The Warhawks added three more runs on a homer by Kat Fallen to extend their lead to 12-7.
7th Inning
AUM added insurance with a solo homer by Shelby Newsome.
